Mentor Texts

I have updated my teacher page. Right now, I’m featuring mentor text links and resources. But it’s not just for teachers, it’s also for writers. I’m working on an article for a publication on this very topic, but I want writers of children’s books to know that teachers need your books.

We want to use them, not just for read alouds, guided reading, independent reading, research, or just reading for pure pleasure. We want to use them as mentors for good writing. Examples of good writing give students stellar writing samples to study and emulate.

If you are a teacher, I hope you will enjoy some of the important resources I rely on in my classroom. If you are a writer, I hope it will be a place where you could discover another way to market your book–as a mentor text in the writing classroom.
