Mentor Text Lesson: Over and Under the Snow by Kate Messner
By day, I’m a teacher. The thing I love to teach the most is writing (no surprise there). I love using mentor texts–really awesome literature to serve as a model for student writing.
In the next few months, there will be more to come on mentor texts including some articles and more lesson plans.
Beginning today, I will be featuring printable mentor text lesson plans on my website. The lessons will be posted it in my FOR TEACHERS section, and I’ll write a blog post announcing it too. Look for a new lesson plan approximately once a month.
The first mentor text lesson features Kate Messner’s picture book OVER AND UNDER THE SNOW. It’s the perfect book for celebrating winter. Her words capture the magic of snow and nature’s creatures that live in it. This lesson plan focuses mostly on vivid verbs and is geared for 3rd-5th graders, however, feel free to tweak it for students younger or older.
