What I’m Reading
The Poetry Home Repair Manual: Practical Advice for Beginning Poets by Ted Kooser
This book had been recommended to me many times. When I finally read it, I realized, it will be a book I’ll return to again and again.
Ted Kooser has a great desire for poetry to be accessible to non-poets. He wants poets to focus on poetry as a way of communicating. He also delves into the poet’s mindset.
This one is a staple for poetry writing, but if you were like me and hadn’t yet read it, move it up to the top of your TBR list.

I am gulping air with that sweetgum’s pods! Now, off to grab Kooser’s book! You are a WEALTH of resources, girl!

Well, I have a big stack of books I’ve owned for a long time. I’m just making my way through them in 10 min increments a day. 🙂

I just shared about my love for sweetgum trees on Mary Lee’s site & now your lovely spring haiku celebrates them, too. Wonderful, Marcie!

Sweetgums seem to be everywhere! Or maybe I’m just now really noticing them.

Enjoyed your poem and photo, Marcie.
I’ll have to seek out Ted Kooser’s book.

Thanks, Tabatha. I really loved the book. Even though Ted has many accolades to his name, he takes a very humble approach to poetry.

I’m gulping that spring air too! I love the sunny air…but the cool, fresh air is the best! Just love that it’s spring and my friends, the leaves, are back.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
I love “my friends, the leaves!” So glad to see them again! If only it didn’t come with their friends–the pollen…
