Progressive Poem
For Poetry Month in April, I joined the progressive poem that many Poetry Friday participants were doing. My post and line were about a week before it all ended. If you haven’t had a chance to read the whole finished poem, you can read it at Michelle Kogan’s blog. I think one of the interesting things about the poem was that each of us chose a line from another book or song. We didn’t have too long to think about it because we had to choose and post so that the next person had time to do their line. But I do love how serendipity played a role in my line choice.
What I’m Reading
Crab Ballet
by Renée LaTulippe
Illustrated by Cécile Metzger
Renée is an amazing teacher, and I’ve learned so much about rhyme from her. It is no surprise that her rhyming picture book CRAB BALLET is exquisite. The rhyme is fantastic–and she is rhyming with ballet words! No easy task! Underwater creatures + ballet + rhyme makes for a unique spin on a typical ballet book. It’s paired with Metzger’s gorgeous illustrations.

I hope to someday see salamanders in the wild! Thanks for this poetic (and photographic) peek at their beginnings!

Thank you, Linda! I’m so glad this week has brought more sunshine. I was water-logged all last weekend. 🙂

Thanks, Mary Lee. I’ll admit, I doubt I would have ever seen this if the naturalist hadn’t pointed it out. So glad she did!

Wow, that is an amazing picture & I love your ‘wordy’ haiku, the gelled & jellied. Nature’s miracles. I took Renee’s class, so happy you liked it, Marcie, & Crab Ballet is so beautiful, & fun!

Yay! Thank you!

I have never heard the term vernal pond. We would have something equivalent here (not from snow melt) – but we’d just call it a waterhole. And they soon fill with toad eggs – which is not a good thing! (Toads are an introduced invasive species.) Now I’m wondering what baby salamanders look like…

I’ll admit, the word “vernal pond” is somewhat new to me too. I love the book WATER HOLE by Graeme Base and am more familiar with that term too.

I love “jellied and gelled” in this. Thanks for sharing the photo and the poem.
