Poetry Friday July 22, 2022: Poetry Printables
Poetry Friday roundup this week is at Another Year of Reading with Mary Lee Hahn.
Poetry Printables
I attended a phenomenal poetry keynote by Janet Wong through the Poetry Foundation Teacher Institute. I’m already a big fan of Janet. My favorite poetry collection of all time is A Suitcase of Seaweed. I’ve also enjoyed learning from her through her Anthologies classes.
For awhile, I’ve been brainstorming ways to make my poetry a little more accessible for teachers to use in their classrooms. Janet has a GREAT poetry printables page that inspired me.
Here is my poetry printables page. For now, I’m just collecting my Poetry Friday haiku here. But as I create more, I will include more printables. Feel free to pass it on to any teachers you know.

What I’m Reading
The Hurting Kind
by Ada Limón
I’m reading Ada Limón’s latest book. It’s the first collection of hers that I’m reading. If you haven’t read the announcement about her being the new Poet Laureate, here is the Library of Congress article.

I am so jealous! I applied to the institute for the first summer of covid. Then, there was the second summer and this summer is full of travel to catch up with family I’ve missed for the past few years.
BUT, I love your printables! What a great idea.
And, I am looking at a wonderful postcard from you right next to my laptop. I love the ways…many ways you share poetry and good writing with the world. You inspire me! Thank you.

Oh Linda! Thank you so much! I think you introduced me to the institute a few years ago. I’m glad it was virtual. It was the only one I was able to attend.
Mary Lee
Your photography! Your haikus! Your generosity in creating a printable poetry page! All the things, right here today.

Thank you so much, Mary Lee!

Your printables page is spectacular! Thank you for making me a recipient of your beautiful postcards. They inspire me daily. Wondering – is that a Blackeyed Susan all huddled up ready to bloom?
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Thank you, Rose! Yes! It IS a Black-eyed Susan. I planted them last year and they are the only thing in my garden that seem to be thriving this year.

Thanks for sharing your marvelous haiku and images. I need to tuck this away for my school year. Janet is wonderful! I’ve enjoyed following her. I wish I could have seen her presentation. I participated last summer and loved it.

Janet is such an inspiration! Sadly, I missed most of Wednesday’s sessions because of other commitments. I hope we’ll get the recording!
I’m a huge fan of your photos and haiku. I love that you find one gorgeous image and zoom in on that. Today’s “petals huddle” is perfect. Thank you for sharing!

Thank you so much, Catherine!

This is a fantastic idea, Marcie. Thanks for sharing. You inspire me. Adds to ToDoList. Your haiku is sweet – and your photo amazing. The petals look more like little critters’ hairy legs.

Thank you so much, Kat!

I’m passing along your Poetry Printables link to my teacher-sister/nieces… They really need to be in a BOOK! Thank you, Marcie!

Thank you so much for the vote of confidence, Patricia! And thank you for passing this on to your sister and nieces. I have another surprise for teachers soon!
