What I’m Reading
by Sara Zarr
Every morning, I read a chapter of a book about writing. It could be a craft book, an inspirational books, or a book about creativity or the creative life. I find that it helps me slowly absorb information about writing. But it’s also something I can complete in about 10 minutes a day.
This Creative Life is a book inspired by Sara Zarr’s podcast by the same name. I appreciated the way she talked about the creative life and how to make it sustainable for the long haul. She realistically talks about writing and the business of writing in this book.

VAASL was wonderful — learning with friends who love learning?! It’s truly the best. Next year, it’s in Chantilly. So, close enough to visit? I hope you will. I agree with other commenters…those scratchy tatters are so descriptive!

It is on my calendar for 2023!!

I cannot be like all the others😛; I love the open aahs of swap and frock and fall, plus the rhythm and alliteration of “swaps her yellow frock for fall’s”–what a line!

The sounds in your haiku — “swap…frock” and “scratchy tatters” are brilliant! I’m imagining you doing a little writer’s happy dance when those words came together on the page! (I would have!)

Happy dancing all around–though I admit, I’m always a little sleepy when I write these. I usually dance if I find one that actually worked.

Scratchy tatters! Like a riches to rags story for a flower. Thanks for the book recommendation, too.

I’m late in commenting on PF posts. Like others here, I love the phrase “scratchy tatters”!
I enjoy creativity books too and was disappointed that my library doesn’t have this one. I just requested they purchase it. We shall see if they do. Thanks for the recommendations!

It’s self-published, so they may take awhile to get it.
