What I’m Listening To
I love Lisa Congdon’s art and illustrations of children’s books. She recently did a podcast episode with Bridget Watson Payne, her editor at Chronicle Books. One of the things I loved about this episode is that they talk about how so many books are born out of passion projects.
Have any of your books or creative projects started as passion projects? Most of mine have! Even my haiku + photography started that way.

Oh those lovely red-tipped robes! Thank you, Marcie. And YES, the vast majority of my books/writing projects have started from a place of passion. There are a couple that didn’t start that way, and I find I’d rather not talk about them…which is not a good thing at all from a book promo perspective! Truly, passion is the secret sauce to taking a book from idea and beyond (and not losing your enthusiasm and/or mind). xo

Yes, I think all of my books came from a passion. Even my work for hire, in most cases, I agreed to because I had a connection to that topic (maybe not a passion though). But all of my trade books were passion, for sure!

Marcie, I love the image of leaves “draining” their green– what a wonderful image to couple with late Fall rains. It makes me think of the whole world in watercolor… Happy Poetry Friday!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes, I love that–world in watercolor!

Love the image that shows “drain their green” beautifully, Marcie. Autumn’s departure keeps giving gifts!

Even though I don’t like the colder weather, I do love the beauty of autumn.

My favorite leaves are the ones we can see still changing. The beauty of color creeping in is just the best. Thank you for capturing it here!

Thank you, Linda!

Love the red-tipped robes and the image of the leaves simply slipping into them.
Yes to passion projects!

Thanks, Karen!

I know “passion projects” … they’re the ones that make you realize you forgot to make dinner! These days, it’s how I know I’ve got a good story or a good poem in process. I’m super glad your haiku+photography continues to be one of yours!

Yes, thank you!
