What I’m Reading
I’ve finished two adult fiction books this week, but don’t have a new poetry book to share.
I did read the article in Poets & Writers where Aimee Nezhukumatathil interviews Ross Gay. It’s in the print version only, and is definitely worth a read!

O those flames! Beautiful, Marcie. And we are of the same mind today. xo

Yes! I loved your maple leaves!

I’ve always liked to think about what other colors hide inside the green leaves in summer. I like how your poem speaks to that hidden “flame.”

Thank you so much!

I saw the image first and then “flames of winter” and it made me gasp, Marcie.

Thank you so much!

Beautiful poem and photography, Marcie. I hope you’re having a good week!

Thank you! I’m recovering from a cold that has been hard to shake, but I’m on the mend!

Lovely, and raising the question once again about the propriety of commas in haiku! Really appreciate the tip about the Ross Gay article in P&W, Marcie!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Right? I put a comma in and took it out.
Linda Baie
Thanks for all, Marcie. Our ‘flames’ have also said goodbye but it was a beautiful sight this fall.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes, ours are long gone too. 🙁

Love that “flames” are left in the trees!
Not to make you jealous or anything, but this past week I heard Ross Gay in conversation with Hanif Abdurraquib!

Oh awesome! He was here in DC, but I didn’t get to the talk. I’m going to watch on YouTube.
Jone MacCulloch
We have a few remaining flames. Beautiful imagery.

Thank you, Jone!

Marcie, your photo is striking and makes me swoon over the beauty of an autumn day. While the leaves are crumpled and removed from our neighborhood in VA, my daughter’s yard has a thick blanket under the tall trees on her property. Of course, they are brown not the rich colors that you share with us. I love the use of the word flames in your haiku. Thanks for the article.

Oh yes, ours are gone too. I took this when they were at their peak.

Those “flames in the trees” are stunning! I needed this bit of color on a dreary, gray day!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Thank you!
