Haiku Year in Review
I have a daily haiku habit. I choose some of my favorites for Poetry Friday. Some are made into poetry postcards. And then I save 12 of them for a haiku calendar.
I took all of the ones that I shared on Poetry Friday and made a “Haiku Year in Review” video. Enjoy! You can also view it on my YouTube channel.

What I’m Reading
Guest edited by Matthew Zapruder
It seems appropriate to end the year with this anthology. One of the things I love about reading this each year is that I get to read from a wide variety of poets and poems.
The one that has impacted me the most so far is: “Broken Sestina Reaching for Black Joy” by Tiana Clark in the Atlantic.

Marcie, I think of myself as productive, but you seem to accomplish three times what a human should be able to do. I love your video–great idea!

Marcie, I have enjoyed your Poetry Postcards that you send me but this cavalcade reel of haikus are powerful as a visual display. The photos are amazing and the content strong. It reminds me of a print calendar and will become a great mentor text for the teachers I am working with. Happy New Year.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Oh wonderful! So glad you are sharing with teachers!

Marcie, mighty productive indeed, and thanks for the reminder of the Best American Poetry–I discovered Tiana Clark this year also and this is a mighty poem which I’d seen exploring The Atlantic’s Inheritance Project. The other one I love is here: https://onbeing.org/programs/tiana-clark-my-therapist-wants-to-know-about-my-relationship-to-work/
Happy New Year to you! I’m kind of hoping to get in on the Nevermores but theapp says the group is full? See you somewhere!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Heidi, Yes, it’s a very small group and is currently closed on the Inked Voices forum. So sorry! And I will check out the OnBeing link.

You continue to sparkle as inspiration, Marcie. Thank you for generously sharing your poems and your behind the scenes thoughts on how to absorb and live poetry. I love your postcards and have totally copied the idea…except that I have ordered the wrong size from zazzle. As soon as I correct that tiny little mistake, be on the look out for more poetry postcards from me. Happy New Year!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Copy away! I’m so glad you are doing postcards. I order mine from Canva directly. I can’t wait to receive a postcard from you! 🙂

Your video has me thinking of spring. My favorite haiku and photo is the salamander eggs. Fascinating!
