What I’m Reading
by Wendell Berry
One of my favorite things I noticed was in the poem “The Finches” when it reads: “May the bare sticks soon/live.” In this season of winter, I’m very much connecting with that line.

I’m with you on the bare sticks. Bring on the buds and blooms and leaves. I’m READY!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes! Me too! I’m not a fan of winter.

“Frills” of nature are always a delight. Your haiku shows us that beautifully, Marcie.

Just look at that close-up sharp-focus foto you created & spot on poem-company, Marcie.
I’m with you, about reading great nature writing at this time of year such as Wendell B, when it feels to many in this hemisphere as if our Mother Earth’s doors, are all closed up.
And sly you in mention of wonderful Betty Mae Tiger Jumper & our connection over that picture book bio. T.Y.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes, I couldn’t NOT mention your lovely book! 🙂

Oh, those frills! I love them and that you brought them to all of us in this. Thank you.

Thank you, Linda!

It’s amazing what light can do. It’s not that it creates new things, but it reveals them. Things that are there all along. Thanks, Marcie!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
So true, Laura!

Those frills shining in the New Year’s sun–just lovely.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
It was a beautiful morning to capture them.

A lovely picture and haiku. There are such wonders out in the woods! I also appreciate the shared line from Wendell Berry. The branches will still be sleeping for a while here in Maine, but it’s encouraging to remember they’re stirring to life (even if at a very slow pace!).
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
I love Maine, but you all do have long, cold winters. Brrr!
PATRICIA J FRANZ
new year’s frills! so perfect!
and you’re the second person this week I’ve met who is reading Wendell Berry – so I’m off to download that!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Oh interesting! It’s an older collection, but I’m enjoying it so far. It’s good for my “notice” focus for the year.
Linda
I’ve been enjoying your haiku moments. Your photos and haiku always match so perfectly!
