Celebrating Books
Several years ago, Pat Tanumihardja and I started writing together on Saturday mornings at a local coffee shop. We both grew up in Southeast Asia and share a love of Asian food (she’s an expert, you should check out her cookbooks).
Soon after, our friend, Ann Bonwill, also joined us. It’s been several years now, and we still get together on Saturday mornings at 7:30 to write before our kids’ activities begin. We’ve had years of writing and writing and writing and waiting and waiting and waiting for publishing news. All three of us have been working so hard.
I’m thrilled that Pat has three picture books coming out this year!
This weekend, we got to celebrate RAMEN FOR EVERYONE! by Pat Tanumihardja and illustrated by Shiho Pate. It’s an awesome father-son story. It’s a great food story, and all around fun!

What I’m Noticing
The blooms on the tree out front are starting to open up. I think this is a Malus x Zumi? We have been puzzled by this tree for years. It’s beautiful this time of year though. I clipped just a bit because I love the color.

It’s so wonderful that you have such a long-standing writing group that meets in person. And congratulations to Pat! Love the cookies, too!

Yes, we started because our kids were all little and early on Saturday mornings seemed to work. Now they are all getting bigger and we still love meeting to catch up and write.

What a cool Saturday morning tradition! And I love your unexpected feast. Sometimes those are the best kind!

It’s a great tradition! We aim for a couple of times a month–our kids’ schedules can get hectic, but it’s such a treat!

Marcie, congratulations to Pat on all three books coming out! That is awesome. What a commitment that you three write together on Saturdays. That is really special, so the celebrations around publishing are all the more sweet. Those ramen inspired cookies are wonderful! As is that photo of the bee with pollen on its head. Nice post today with lots of treasures.

Wonderful that you have the group to write, and celebrate, with on Saturdays, Marcie. My son is far from college now but he at ramen a lot. I think he’d love knowing a book was out celebrating it! Thanks & congratulations to Pat on this one and two more!

Ramen is the best! I’m so glad her book is in the world.

Love this feast of a post, Marcie! Your haiku/photo pairings are always spectacular. And Congrats to your friend, Pat! I’m going to check out her new book. If I had pals like yours to write with, I’d get up early enough to meet at 7:30am on a Saturday, too. 🙂

Thank you so much, Bridget!

Marcie, how wonderful to have such a constant writing group of friends. Congratulations on your friend’s success. Her new book sounds delicious. Your haiku this week provides such interesting information (bees in winter???)
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes, bees in winter in Alexandria at Green Spring Gardens–taken at the end of January this year. I wasn’t the only one taking pictures.
