Poetry Friday: A Double Book Announcement
Robyn at Life on the Deckle Edge is hosting today. Hop on over there for the roundup.
Book News! Book News! Book News!
I haven’t had a book to announce in a few years, but I’ve been diligently working on several things.
I’m excited to announce two books all in the same week! They were sold two years apart, but that’s the magic of publishing time.
You’ll be hearing more about them now that I can talk about them.
YA Novel-in-Verse
I’m very excited about my debut YA verse novel. It’s a historical fiction story that is inspired by local woman suffrage history.
I was working on this book when I signed with my agent in 2018 (though it was a very different book back then)! Here I am at the launch part for Wait, Rest, Pause at One More Page Books in September 2019. They had a VOTES FOR WOMEN sign and a friend snapped my picture knowing I’d been hard at work on this book–even back then.
I’ve also been working on revisions over the past few weeks, and I’ve been finding different quiet spots to work.
Nonfiction Picture Book
My other book is a lyrical nonfiction picture book born out of my love for all things twilight.
This book sold in the dark days of the fall of 2020. I’m so excited about Michelle Morin’s beautiful art. This book really celebrates the love I have for nature.

What I’m Reading
by Gregory Orr
I’m participating in a book study on Inked Voices using this book, and I’m enjoying it so far.
Don’t worry, I’m still reading Mary Oliver. I listened to this old episode of On Being too.
What I’m Noticing
The chives are blooming and we have so many, so I just cut a few bouquets to bring in.

Two books! Congratulations! I’m so happy for you. Your haiku is exactly right. There is an apple tree outside my bedroom window who put on quite a show this spring. Thank you for reminding me of the Gregory Orr book. I need to revisit it.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Many thanks! The Orr book is interesting–definitely helping me see things in a different way.

WOW, Marcie – Hearty congratulations to you! Both of these books sound absolutely fabulous. (I’m always trying to work the word “crepuscular” into conversations, personally.) Matilda Young’s story sounds important and inspiring – grateful it will come to life because of your words! Hope you have time to bask in all the Spring goodness and in your oh-so-good news borne of hard work and vision.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Thank you, Robyn! The word crepuscular is how I started writing the book. I just loved the word.

With all that went on with Bonny this past week, I got a very late start on the Poetry Primer. But it is my breakfast reading each morning and I’m loving it. So much resonates!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Thank you so much! And yes to reading at breakfast. I read about 5-10 minutes of it every morning.
