What I’m Reading
edited by Elaine Equi
I try to read through these every year. One of my favorite parts is always how varied the poems are. They come from many different journals and online resources, and they always help me think about poetry in a new way.

That is a gorgeous flower! “Dusk dancer” must be wonderful to see. Thanks!

Such beautiful images… in the photo and words. I thought of the Waltz of the Flowers in Fantasia, but the dusk dancer twirling that skirt would be more elegant.

Wow, Marcie! Your moonflower looks like a delicous swirl of butter and whipped cream. I love your swirling skirt metaphor. Your poem generates a sense of anticipation (that made me google a blooming moonflower because I couldn’t wait)!

P.S. Marcie, I just read Du Iz Tak and loved it!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
It does look like whipped cream!

Another gorgeous photo and spot-on haiku! What a glorious dancer to have in your very own garden!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes! It has been a long time waiting for these lovely dancers.

The “dusk dancer” is new to me, Marcie. At first I thought it was part of an ice cream cone! Wonderful!

Marcie, I have learned about the moon flower for the first time from this group this year. That photo is fascinating; I’m glad you were able to capture it. The metaphor of her skirt getting ready to twirl really puts a picture in our heads for the next stage of this photo. Lovely! I love “dusk dancer” too.
Linda
Just beautiful, Marcie!
Laura Purdie Salas
That’s a beautiful flower! I immediately went to ice cream cone, but your haiku captures it much better :>D

What a beautiful take on this lovely flower – as others have noted, the swirl looks delicious!

Marcie, it has been a whirlwind of a pre-Halloween weekend. I am sorry that it has taken so long to read your delightful post. Of course your photo is fabulous and the haiku is splendid. Thanks for sharing the dusk dancer.

I hope your dusk dancer opened for you Marcie- wonderful way to describe this incredible night blooming flower!
Unfortunately I’ve given up on mine for the season, but there’s always next year, thanks!
