I’ve been trying to put down my phone and really focus on other things. When I walk, I’m walking without looking at my phone or listening to anything. I’m walking with my thoughts–specifically about my works-in-progress. At night, when I’m beat, I’m trying not to doom scroll. Small steps. Sometimes, I don’t do well with this. But when I do, it’s so much better for me creatively. I KNOW this, and yet, I have to remind myself everyday to make the right choice.

Each liine of your haiku sings! The “uh” sounds, the short i’s in wisteria and dribbles, and the d’s in dribbles and down and dollops! It really is a song that flows out, Marcie. I took a “forest bath” this morning – walked without any phone, no earbuds, just looked, listened, smelled, I could even taste spring in the wet shade. Then I stopped and closed my eyes and stood motionless. What a great walk!

Taste the spring! Yes!
Denise Krebs
Marcie, sweet little dollops of purple. Enjoy those walks and times without your phone. You deserve it, and your creativity is rewarded, as well, as you are seeing.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
It has been so good for my creativity to do the walks with just me and a notebook.

Oh, I love the words, “purple dollops”, and that photo, wow! We are all reveling over the beauty of the flowers, aren’t we? Thanks, Marcie!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
There’s nothing quite like the spring when all of the flowers come out.
Rose Cappelli
Your photo and haiku are absolutely delicious, Marcie! I recently walked under a canopy of wisteria at Longwood. It felt so peaceful!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
So true! And so beautiful!

Amazing photo and flower! And I’ve never seen dribbles and dollops in a haiku before! Well done. I used to live in D.C. but have never been to the botanical gardens there, but now would love to go there.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
It’s definitely worth a visit. There are outside parts and inside parts.

With devices designed to be addictive, it is so tempting to give in to their colorful glow. I do it every day, especially at the end of the day, as you mentioned, for a little doom scrolling! Thank you for the reminder to look up and see the flowers.
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes! Look up and see the flowers. It’s my favorite thing.
Karen Eastlund
Lovely haiku, Marcie. I love the picture also, as I have not been so close to wisteria. It does seem like thick icing dripping down. My mother always used the word “dollop.” Thanks for this…
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
It does look like icing. Yum!

“Dribble” and “dollup” are such perfectly chosen words for wisteria!
I’m with you in the challenge to disengage from the phone more. Two steps forward, one step back, but the effort is certainly worth it. How else would I have heart the hawk fly from one side of the street to the other right above me?
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Yes to hawk-spotting and phones down! Let’s do more of this!
Carol Varsalona
Marcia, today’s haiku image is a spring surprise. I love the idea of the wisteria dribble down. Well done!

Wisteria is always a winner, Marcie and the word ‘dollops’ always delivers.

Wisteria is a winner! So true!

dribble, dollop, purple, tunnel–I love the abundance of ls and /ul/ sounds. The poem feels like its overflowing, just like wisteria!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Thank you so much, Laura!

Gorgeous purple wisteria!! Love the haiku and this moment of reflection. 🙂
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Thank you so much, Jama!
Linda Mitchell
Yes, to putting down the phone and more purple dollops!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Let’s do more of that this spring/summer!
Karen Edmisten
Wow, the wisteria and your haiku are beautiful! And, oh, my goodness, the challenges of digital detox. It’s hard!
Marcie Flinchum Atkins
Digital detox–such true words!
